It is with heavy hearts that Colpitts Developments announces that our beloved co-founder, Wayne Colpitts, P.Eng., has passed away earlier this week at the age of 88, leaving behind a storied legacy of success in the industry.
As a passionate and dedicated leader, Wayne was instrumental in the growth of the company that shares his name. Colpitts Developments was founded by Wayne and his son Shawn Colpitts in the early 1990’s as a small regional home builder. Together they grew the company into the largest home builder in New Brunswick. The company provides both commercial and residential services, but residential was always Wayne’s passion. The company has created homes for more than 2,500 New Brunswick families.
“Wayne was a mentor, friend, and inspiration to everyone who had the privilege to work with him,” said Craig McElroy, P.Eng., Vice President of Colpitts Developments. “He was an incredible force that could be felt in every aspect of the company, he will be missed by all.”
“Wayne's contribution to the creation and growth of Colpitts Developments was invaluable,” said Willy Scholten, CFO of Colpitts Developments. “His spirit will remain a guiding force for our company into the future and his impact on Colpitts Developments and the Fredericton community and everyone who worked alongside him will not be forgotten. I will miss him”
“My grandfather’s wisdom, work-ethic, and passion has helped shape our company into what it is today,” said Ryan Downe, Project Manager at Colpitts Developments. “His influence on me and everyone he worked with will be felt for many years to come.”
Wayne grew up in Colpitts Settlement, a small town outside of Salisbury, before going to the University of New Brunswick to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. He began his career in Campbellton, NB with CN Rail, before returning to Fredericton to start a family with his wife, Reta. He spent 30 years with the Government of New Brunswick before co-founding Colpitts Developments.
